5) Joseph Bates died at age 14
6) William Bates lost at sea
7) Ambrose Bates died at age 4.

Mathew Bates was b. 1790 in County Fermanagh, Ireland.
His 1st marriage was to Margaret Morrison born 1805, d. 1835. The Bates family came to NB in 1829 first settled near Hatfield Point then moved to Long Point, Kings County.
