01:45pm Planting of the Irish Heritage Rose
Location: Fredericton, NB

23 September 2023 – free and open to all:
Starting at 2:00 pm (please arrive by 1:45 if possible)
The local Chapter of the Irish Canadian Cultural Association of NB has partnered with the Fredericton Botanic Garden to introduce our New Brunswick Irish Heritage Rose to the public and enjoy an hour or two of lively Irish musical entertainment in celebration. Bring a folding chair (and perhaps an umbrella if the weather is uncertain?) and meet us at the Welcome oval at the main entrance of the Fredericton Botanic Garden, 695 Prospect Street on Fredericton’s south side. This very special rose bush is a piece of one that was brought from Ireland to New Brunswick by a young Irish woman in 1838 and planted at her new home in Albert County, New Brunswick. More than 180 years later, that rose bush is still growing at the original homestead. It has long ago reached its mature height of 8 feet high by about 8 feet wide and still thrives today. The Irish Association has been gifted with one of only 5 pieces taken from this original bush. Our partnership with the Fredericton Botanic Garden will ensure this special rose will continue to thrive for all to view its abundant pink blooms each summer and enjoy its beautiful scent for generations to come. Join us if you can.CBC interview with Marilyn Driscoll: https://www.cbc.ca/listen/live-radio/1-25-information-morning-fredericton/clip/16010920-irish-rose
